Stitch Hub - About

Our Story

We started Stitch Hub because we love our friend and co-founder Lucy (pictured centre). She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (t1d) in 2003, and when she experienced the transition from children’s to adult care, she felt a sudden and shocking disconnection from the diabetes ecosystem. For years, we’ve watched her subtly hide her pump, test her blood under the table, and scoff a jelly bean to avoid being asked questions or drawing attention to her chronic illness.

So we started asking her more questions, and encouraging her to share this part of herself with us. We wanted to know what it was like to have a hi and low blood sugar, what foods affected her levels, what her relationship with her endocrinologist was like, and more. And the more we asked, the more we realised collectively that there was a huge problem in the Australian diabetes ecosystem.

Like Lucy, so many people living with diabetes feel isolated when it comes to the day to day management of diabetes. She didn’t know how to find a good, trustworthy support group near her. She didn’t know who to ask about how to explain diabetes to her boss, when she got her first job. Managing t1d is about so much more than just numbers and figures. It’s about needing to manage supplies, keep up to date with relevant information, and be apart of a community of like minded individuals.

We had the power to do something about it. So we teamed up with Lucy to created Stitch Hub. Our goal is that everyone who is like Lucy, or her family and friends or her healthcare team, have everything they need in one place, to help make a life with diabetes a life without any more burden than it needs to be.

Our database of tools and resources will help to inform, educate and inspire you, whether you’re affected by or passionate about t1d. Search by keyword, or use our quick filters to find books, support groups, clinical trials and more!

We hope you find Stitch Hub helpful and if you do, share it with a friend.

What can Stitch Hub be for you?

As a resource provider, you most likely experience struggles similar to what we’ve been hearing. It’s hard to get feedback on your resources, hard to target them, and hard to know what the gaps in the market are. Our comprehensive insights and analysis can help you to understand what people are saying about your resources, and how you can improve them. Stitch Hub is your new insights analyst!

Carers and individuals

There’s no ‘typical person’ who gets diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, so people who create groups, events or products sometimes find it hard to give you what you need. It makes searching on Google for a resource really tricky, especially if you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for! Stitch Hub is your pocket-book full of tips, tricks and support for you, and your loved one.

You’re probably facing the same issue as most clinicians we talk to. You barely have enough time to see all your patients regularly, let alone keep up to date with the best management and support resources, or personalise them to your patients! Stitch Hub is your assistant in keeping up to date, personalise recommendations and support better management practices for your patients.
